Secure costs

The SCR technology with AdBlue® allows an optimisation, i.e. a reduction, of the fuel consumption. Vehicle manufacturers quote diesel savings of up to 6 % compared to a EURO 3 vehicle.

The manufacturers of commercial vehicles expect the AdBlue® consumption to be approx. 3-4 % of the diesel consumption for EURO 4 vehicles and approx. 5-6% for EURO 5. As AdBlue® is cheaper than diesel, the cost savings are obvious.

Further incentives are provided by the legislature. For example, the toll costs in Germany are determined by the emission class among other factors. The charge for a four-axle EURO 3 vehicle is 12 cent per motorway kilometre, this is reduced to 10 cent for EURO 4 and EURO 5 vehicles (this only applies to EURO 5 from October 2006).

Incentives in other European countries

Incentives, such as tax relief, toll charges, lifting of the ban on night-time driving, higher transit quotas etc., should also lead to a fast change-over to the new generation of vehicles outside Germany. More detailed information is given in the FAQ.
