PIAFINE® MC - The urea
resin condensate for matting
agents and other additives for paints

Product

PIAFINE® MC is a matting agent and a property-improving additive based on finely particulate urea oligomers. Formulations can be tailored to suit very different requirements for applications in paints and varnishes. Owing to its chemical composition and content of reactive groups, PIAFINE® MC also acts as a polymer cross-linking agent and thus improves the elasticity, smoothness and surface resistance of paints. The particle sizes distribution can be altered to produce different matting effects with varying degrees.
PIAFINE® MC is insoluble and does not swell in water or in common solvents used in the paint and varnish industry.

Application

To be used to produce matt paints, matting agent systems and special property-improving additives for paints and varnishes.

PIAFINE® MC is primarily used as a matting agent for paints and varnishes, coil-coating systems, wood stains and UV-curing systems. Other applications include improvement of the flow properties of powder coatings and improvement of the surface resistance of paints. A particular advantage is that it has only a very slight effect on the viscosity of the formulations.

The special structure and pore distribution of PIAFINE® MC means that it has only a very slight effect on the paint rheology. It is particularly advantageous for applications in UV-curing systems. Formulations optimised with PIAFINE® MC exhibit ideal properties with respect to processability (low viscosity), flexibility and adhesion, transparency (stains) and surface resistance. Owing to its duroplastic structure, PIAFINE® MC has a good thermal stability up to approx. 200 °C. PIAFINE® MC can be used as a matting agent in nearly all water-bourne and solvent-bourne paint systems. It is equally suitable for air-dried or heat-cured paints, printing inks, wood stains and UV-curable paints.
